Project Overview

Students are required to design an original game-ready character in response to a professional-style industry brief. This project simulates real-world expectations within the games and digital media sectors, encouraging students to develop characters that demonstrate strong visual storytelling, personality, and technical design skill.

Students should consider how their character would function within a game environment, including narrative role, visual identity, and audience appeal.

Project Aim

To develop industry-standard character design skills by:
*Responding to a professional-style creative brief
*Presenting work suitable for industry critique
*Demonstrating understanding of character personality and narrative
*Producing portfolio-quality concept artwork
*Target Industry Context

This project reflects real creative industry workflows where designers:
*Work to client or studio briefs
*Develop concept art for games and digital media
*Present ideas to creative directors or development teams
*Refine work based on professional feedback

Final Deliverables

Students must produce at least one of the following:

Character Design Sheet

Including:
*Character turnaround or multiple poses
*Facial expression exploration
*Costume or outfit variations
*Colour palette and material references

Accessories, weapons, or props (if appropriate)

Final Concept Art Piece

A polished final artwork showing:
*The character in an environment
*Lighting and atmosphere
*Storytelling through pose and setting

Assessment Focus

Students will be assessed on:
