Creative students collaborate with police and local partners to promote safety for women and girls.

Working Together to Promote Safety in Our Community

Creative media students from West Nottinghamshire College have contributed to a powerful public awareness campaign aimed at tackling violence against women and girls. Their work is now proudly displayed at a Mansfield bus stop, sending an important message to thousands of local residents.

The campaign, developed in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, Nottinghamshire FRSV (Forensic & Sexual Violence team) and local support organisations, aims to highlight the scale of abuse faced by women and encourage the community to take action.

Students Designing for Real-World Impact

The students were involved in creating the campaign artwork, which features hard-hitting statistics and clear guidance on how the public can help prevent violence and support those affected.

The project gave the learners the opportunity to:

  • Work with real clients and community partners

  • Learn how to design sensitive, socially-focused messaging

  • Produce artwork for a live public installation

  • Contribute to a campaign with genuine community impact

Their final design is now displayed on a digital billboard in Mansfield, serving as a reminder of the crucial role young creatives can play in social change.

A Proud Moment for Everyone Involved

Representatives from Nottinghamshire Police, the college and partner organisations joined the students at the campaign display site to celebrate their contribution. They praised the professionalism, creativity and sensitivity the students demonstrated throughout the project.

The poster includes important information on how to recognise signs of abuse, how to intervene safely, and where victims can seek help — including a 24-hour helpline.

Using Creativity for Positive Change

For the students, the project offered more than just design experience — it showed how creative skills can be used to raise awareness, support vulnerable people and strengthen community safety.

This collaboration is another example of how West Nottinghamshire College continues to connect learners with meaningful real-world opportunities, empowering them to use their skills to make a difference.
